Field trip

 

A one-day optional field trip will be organized on 29 June 2018 in the Bay of Brest (Brittany, France) to discover local rhodotlith beds. Diving or boat excursions will be proposed to the participants.

A bus will be leaving from Roscoff at 07:30 am, heading for Brest Marina. You will be given the choice between:

  • A half-day boat trip on a research vessel,  R/V Albert Lucas shared by IUEM (European Institute for Marine Studies) and Iroise Marine Natural Park in Brest, or R/V Neomysis, Roscoff Marine Station research vessel.

    On board these boats, you will be accompanied by one of the workshop organizers in order to carry out samplings on several rhodolith beds in the Bay of Brest to study their biodiversity.

    36 persons will be able to get onboard, 18 in the morning and 18 more in the afternoon.

  • A dive on a rhodolith bed from a small Dervinis 1000 boat from a local dive shop in Brest called Eau Libre . The dive site will have a maximum depth of about 20 meters.

    A maximum of 28 divers will be accepted, 14 divers in the morning (including 6 divers with a Rescue Diver certificate (or above) and 8 divers who will be diving along with a local dive instructor) and 14 in the afternoon(same ratio).

    Divers will need to provide their certification cards. For those wishing to dive without a local dive instructor, you must provide a dive level at least equivalent to the PADI Rescue diver : C-card and / or dive log scans. If you can’t provide a CMAS or PADI C-card, please get in touch AS SOON AS POSSIBLE with Laure Sevin (rhodolith-2018-doodleATsciencesconf.org) BEFORE you register and pay for this field trip.

 
The cost of this optional field trip is 54 euros  (66 US Dollar) including all taxes, but not including the lunch which you can have, at your own expense, in the brasseries / cafes of Brest harbor or in the city.

The bus will bring you back from Brest Marina to Roscoff in the evening around 8pm (arrival time). Therefore, you will have the opportunity to enjoy a ½ day in the city of Brest, whose city center is easily accessible from the harbour by public transport (Bibus bus and tram network) or even by foot. A one-day bus ticket will be provided allowing access to all buses, trams and cable car.

 *to be adjusted in function of the dollar-euro exchange rate.

 Important note : you cannot choose  1/2 day boat trip + 1/2 day scuba diving. You will have to make a choice between the two possibilities. But if you want to dive, you can choose to dive a second time in the afternoon, subject to availability.
